The part of your body most neglected, is often one of the most important. Imagine how
your life would change if you could not walk. What would you miss most? Would it be
midnight walks on the beach? Perhaps you would miss the aerobic rush brought on by the
five flights of stairs to your office.
If you've never been confined to a wheelchair you may look at those who are with pity. It would never occur to you that you could possibly end up in the same position. However, neglecting your feet could have the same end result.
Think about this: In your lifetime you will walk an average of 80,000 to 115,000 miles. This amounts to more than three times around the globe! Your feet absorb about four to five pounds per square inch of force each day, with every step, and much of it on hard pavement. Just one of those tootsies has 26 bones and together they comprise one quarter of the total number of bones in your body.
If you are overweight, you may develop more foot problems than someone of optimal weight. However, regardless of your size, your feet should not hurt. If they do, it is time to see a doctor of podiatry for an evaluation. Follow this to find out more about podiatrists.
